Use of electronic leg tags for identification of small ruminants.

Few studies have evaluated the use of electronic leg tags for identification of small ruminants; thus the objectives of this study were i) to quantify the degree of development in the body region where the tags are placed, ii) to assess the effect of the farm management system on the suitability of the leg tags, and iii) to assess tag readability under dynamic conditions, i.e. as animals moved ...

Automatic Real-Patient Medical Data De-Identification for Research Purposes

Our Medicine-oriented research is based on a medical data set of real patients. It is a security problem to share patient private data with peoples other than clinician or hospital staff. We have to remove person identification information from medical data. The medical data without private data are available after a de-identification process for any research purposes. In this paper, we introdu...

Extended field test on the use of visual ear tags and electronic boluses for the identification of different goat breeds in the United States.

A total of 295 goats from 4 breeds (Alpine, n = 74; Angora, n = 75; Boer-cross, n = 73; Spanish, n = 73) were used to assess the retention of 3 types of electronic ruminal boluses (B1, 20 g, n = 95; B2, 75 g, n = 100; and B3, 82 g, n = 100) according to breed and feeding conditions. Time for bolus administration, reading with a handheld reader, and animal data recording (goat identification, br...

Genomic application in sheep and goat breeding

Sheep and goat breeds are selected worldwide for meat, wool, and dairy production, and breeding objectives also include other functional traits such as reproductive performance and disease resistance. In early 2007, the development of next-generation sequencing (NGS) allowed de novo sequencing of sheep (Jiang et al., 2014) and goat genomes (Dong et al., 2013). In turn, it offered an opportunity...
